"Mommy, how do I look?"

The following is a quote from "Captivating" by John & Stasi Eldredge:
"Remember twirling skirts? Most little girls go through a season when they will not wear anything if it does not twirl (and if it sparkles, so much the better). Hours and hours of endless play result from giving little girls a box filled with hats, scarves, necklaces and clothes. Dime store beads are priceless jewels; hand-me-down pumps become glass slippers. Once dressed, they dance around the house or preen in front of the mirror. Their young hearts intuitively want to know they are lovely. Some will ask with words, "Am I lovely?" Others will simply ask with their eyes. Verbal or not, whether wearing a shimmery dress or covered in mud, all little girls want to know. As a young songwriter recently wrote,
I want to be beautiful
and make you stand in awe
look inside my heart
and be amazed
I want to hear you say
who I am is quite enough
I just want to be worthy of love
and beautiful
-Bethany Dillion, "Beautiful"

routine change...

This week Lizzie has started a new routine in the mornings when she gets out of bed. Usually she comes and helps me put on make-up or she helps Russ pick his clothes out for work. But this week she gets up and gets in bed with Anna Claire. Now Russ and I are HUGE fans of this!!! Sadly this morning Anna Claire informed Lizzie that "this is the last time you get in my bed! I'm sleeping!" We'll see what tomorrow holds...

A new song...

This is Anna Claire singing her new song from children's choir:

attitude problem

This morning has not been happy for Lizzie. She is having to wear a not-so-twirly dress to school because her others are not clean. She sulked around while I made breakfast. While we were eating I said, "Lizzie, your breakfast looks yummy." And she said, "Don't say anything to me."

King of the Jungle

This is a song the girls sing in Chapel at school called "Who is the king of the Jungle?"

Enjoy!

princess

We were eating lunch at a restaurant on Saturday and a man started talking to Anna Claire. He asked her if she was a movie star and she said, "No I'm not!" Then he asked if she was a princess and she said, "No, but my daddy thinks I am."

not quite right

We went to pick Anna Claire up from her Wednesday night church activities and her teacher said, "I hear y'all are leaving next Thursday on a trip!" Bewildered, Russ and I said, "What trip?" Her teacher replied, "Disney World! Anna Claire said you were leaving next Thursday for Disney." We clarified that we would be going in a year from now! So funny!

Memory Verses

Tonight the girls were learning their letter "C" Bible verse from Colossians 3:20 "Children obey your parents." I asked them if they knew what it meant and Anna Claire said, "It means I get a spanking."

my on-time child

Yesterday we were the first car in line for car pool at Mother's Day Out. Anna Claire looked at the cars behind us in line and said, "They are all late!" I tried to explain to her that they weren't late rather on-time. She didn't believe me - just proud to be the only car there right on time. Russ and I had a good laugh over this imagining the scene at our house when they are sharing a car in high school. Anna Claire will be upset because Lizzie isn't ready on time!

A long day already...

This morning has been quite exhausting!

Lizzie wanted to wear her green dress today so I told her she would have to wear leggings with her dress since it is so cold today. When I got out her black leggings to wear with her beloved dress she immediately collasped on the floor crying. In her sobbing I heard, "They are not beautiful! Black is not beautiful!" After 5 minutes of that I was ready to put her back in the bed!
Later I was helping Anna Claire make her bed and we found Lizzie's baby doll bottle in the sheets. I pulled it out and Anna Claire shouted, "No Mommy! I don't want Lizzie to see that bottle! I want to keep it. Put it back in the covers." I said, "Anna Claire, that is part of Lizzie's Christmas present from Hunta." And her reply was, "That's why she doesn't need to see it!"

Right now they are playing together very happily! So I will be thankful!!!
There is a Caedom's Call song that talks about being a mom and one of the lines says "My cup runs over but I worry about the stain!" Very much exemplifies my life. How blessed I truly am and so thankful to God who fills my cup!

Wardrobe Violation

Lizzie is my fashion girl! Colors are so very important to her. This morning I presented her royal highness with 2 outfits for school. I knew she would be happy to choose one because they were both twirly dresses. Instead of deciding she informed me that the hangers did not match the outfits and I needed to switch them. I had a blue dress on a purple hanger and a pink/purple dress on a white hanger. She decided on the pink & purple outfit (her signature colors) and asked me to put the blue one on the white hanger. So particular!!!

Hasty

Anna Claire came and asked me where her microphone was today. I told her we threw it away before Christmas (which was 3 weeks ago and she has not even noticed its absence) because it was broken and to make room for new toys. She said, "Let's not be hasty, mommy. Let's not be hasty! I need it!"

bottom boogers

Today while we were eating lunch Lizzie said, "My bottom hurts! There are boogers in my bottom!"

Arm warmers

Are there any words for this? Anna Claire slept in her "arm warmers" the entire night - that way her arms wouldn't get cold!

Sibling Love

Tonight Anna Claire told Russ,"Daddy, I don't want Lizzie anymore." So Russ said, "Do you want to take her back to the store?" She thought for a moment and said, "No Daddy! I want to keep her."
Sibling love is so complicated! You want to love them but they do really thoughtless things, especially when you are young. I can only imagine what a nuisance I was to my sister who is 5 years older than I am. I even remember her trying to sell me to other people at Wednesday night church supper when I was in elementary school! I am actually laughing out loud thinking about it!

Punky Brewster & Alice

The girls have finally out-grown the first dress-up clothes we bought for them a couple of years ago. A friend of mine gave me some of her daughter's dress-up clothes some time ago and they have been patiently waiting in the basement until such a time as this...

Lizzie is Alice in Wonderland without the white apron (it's not twirly enough). Anna Claire is Minnie Mouse. Today, however, she looked like "Punky Mouse" or "Minnie Brewster." I'm not sure if the crazy combination is genetic or what...
