Happy Birthday!

This is birthday weekend at our house! My birthday is today and Lizzie's is tomorrow! Crazy times!!! Lizzie's party was today and 8 of her friends came over to celebrate. We made ice cream cone necklaces, played pin the scoop on the cone, decorated cookies, and had a book exchange. (Indulge me as a I get on my soap box: I think it is mostly silly to bring gifts to birthday parties with our friends. We all have LOTS of toys already! So I do a book exchange where every kid brings a book and every kid goes home with a different book.
After all that fun the Ice Cream truck came to our house and everyone got to pick out their own ice cream treat. A fun party!

Fashion Show

Saturday Anna Claire announced a fashion show was coming to our playroom and I needed to come! Dutifully I obliged and saw something I wasn't expecting: stuffed animals in pretty panties... A great look for any body type!

Corrections

Anna Claire is LOVING school! She is very tired at night but she seems to really like being in big school. You would assume she is my child that would tell me EVERY detail of her day but getting information out of her is like pulling teeth. For instance, "Who are your friends at school?" Her reply, "Everyone in my class, mom!"
Yesterday I asked her if she liked playing in P.E. She said, "We do not play in PE." I said "That's right! You exercise." Then in total disgust of my ignorance she said, "It's not exercise it is PE that we do in there." I'm guessing we haven't explained that PE stands for Physical Exercise.

Another funny, this one from Lizzie. My friend kept Lizzie last week while I worked for a couple of hours and they watched The Sound of Music together. Lizzie called the Abbey where the nuns live a "Nun Castle." So funny!!!

The 1st day of school...

Anna Claire has been looking forward to the 1st day of kindergarten for a long time and it finally arrived today!
At 645 she came out of her room and said, "Your kindergartner is ready for school!" And when we were loading up to leave she said, "Look out kindergarten! Here I come!"
Her only moment of fear came as we pulled up to the school and she said, "Mommy! I don't remember how to get to my class!" I reassured her that there would be people to help her and that seem to do the trick. When we got to the school she jumped up and told the lady that got her out of the car she weighed 40 pounds and had a booster.
I proudly watched her walk into school! She turned around to look at me then headed bravely off
to her first day of "all-day-long" school.

Mom, Lizzie and I picked her up this afternoon and she had a fabulous time! They hunted a gingerbread man all over the school and finally found him waiting on their desks.
Mom asked her how her day went and she said, "I have had such a long day, I can't even talk about it."
Lizzie missed her sister today! Lizzie's preschool won't start for a couple of more weeks. You will not find a picture of Lizzie with Anna Claire on the 1st day of school because she refused to be in a picture with "sister."

Here comes the bride ...

It was announced today that Anna Claire would be having a wedding! And I was invited! She was getting married in Istanburg. I asked who she was marrying and she said, "What are you talking about mommy??" The groom seemed completely unnecessary. Then she ran through the house yelling, "I'm marrying my father!"

Since she promised a roller coaster at the reception I decided to go to the ceremony. First she hid behind her curtains then she came out in a grand sweeping entrance. Since she had NO idea what came next she started to sing. First she sang "My Favorite Things" which transitioned nicely in to "How Do you Solve a Problem Like Emma Chase?"

Next was the reception where you had to ride the roller coaster to have a piece of cake. Since Lizzie does not like being told what to do she decided not to have wedding cake and left. Then I was told I could only watch the bride ride the roller coaster. Unfortunately the coaster broke and I had to climb a ladder to get her down. All in all it was a great wedding!

Please notice her wedding gown! She was very insistent that it didn't "drag the ground" like Maria's.

When Russ got home she told him they were now married!

Painting Bricks

Tonight I spent about 35 minutes filling up water balloons. Then it only took about 3 minutes to pop them all. The girls were deflated, no pun intended, when all the water balloons were gone so I thought quickly and ran to get a bucket of water and 2 paint brushes - we can't have the natives getting restless! I remembered in VBS that we let the preschoolers "paint bricks" with water. The girls LOVED it - especially my industrious first born! I highly recommend this activity to all mom's with little kids.

This morning the girl's stayed with Hunta, my mom, while I went to work. Mom said they were on her big swing laughing and Anna Claire said, "Hunta, you have jingle bells in your mouth!" My mom said, "Jingle Bells?" Turns out it was the fillings in mom's teeth! Hysterical!!

the blessing

Today at lunch Lizzie sang the prayer and this is how it went:
"God our Father, God our Father
We thank you, we thank you (so far so good...)
How are you today sir
Very well I thank you
run away, run away"

Then she started laughing and said,"Oh no, not again!"

It is confusing when the tune is the same! So funny!

theology

This morning I was brushing Anna Claire's hair and I said, "Anna Claire, you have such a beautiful hair color. God gave you such pretty-colored hair." She replied: "But it's not green! I wanted Him to give me green hair!"
Lizzie's newest word this week: exhuasperated. I make her very exhausperated sometimes!
